Top 10 Zombie Movies
The hype of zombies in mainstream media started way back in the 1980s. Even Michael Jackson’s music video for the hit song “Thriller” featured dancing zombies. So what really makes a zombie movie good? The best kinds of zombie films are those that are amusing, political, follow a good plot while still scaring you to the edge of your seat. Another element that makes a great zombie movie is how it was directed or executed because even if it has all the previous qualities but it was not executed well, it still won’t be as convincing or interesting. So here’s our top ten picks for the best zombie movies of all time.
- Zombie (1980)
This pioneering movie has all the elements. It has a gripping story, the right amounts of gore, violence and craze that zombie films should have and most of all it has a great director in the name of Lucio Fulci.
- Exit Humanity (2011)
This film is set in a society plagued by the atrocities of the Civil War. If a war is not tragic enough, add some zombies to that and you’ll have a film about survival. The narration and the plot will shock you but the action is tinged with melancholy.
- Night of the Creeps (1986)
This is another oldie but goldie. A college campus is attacked by the undead turning college students into flesh-eating crazies. Fred Dekker meshed together different genres and the result is quite interesting.
- Zombieland (2009)
This is clearly not a perfect film but it gives us look into the end of the world as we know it – with zombies. Ruben Fleischer created this zombie comedy not to blow your mind but for you to sit back and enjoy some whimsical humor.
- Warm Bodies (2013)
Yes it’s a romance-comedy film but that’s not all that this film is about. The protagonist is actually a zombie himself. If that’s not interesting enough wait ’til his heart actually starts beating. Maybe even zombies just need someone to love them.
- 28 Days Later (2003)
This tale of gore and horror is filled with angry flesh-eating zombies. This is not a film about survival and zombie killings, the director is truly a master of his craft. Director Danny Boyle calls out to humanity with a very serious and cautionary message.
- Rec (2007)
This film has the creepiest zombie child ever. This zombie film will truly scare the hell out of you. The last few minutes of this film will definitely stay with you for a long, long time.
- Dawn of the Dead ( 1978)
There’s a zombie outbreak and where do people go? The mall. This gripping film by George Romero expresses not only the gore and scare fest of a zombiepocalypse but it also has addresses some important social issues.
- Resident Evil (2002)
This gore thriller is actually based on a video game. It combines action and gore in the most pleasing way possible.
- Night of the Living Dead (1968)
This film will remind you to steer clear of cemeteries. Romero’s classic zombie flick influenced a lot of the later films with it’s impressive take on the struggles of survival.
