FRANKFORD -- There was no Rick, Michonne or Darryl running from zombies at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Saturday, but the dead were walking during the first day of the Zombie Apocalypse Asylum.
"This is a good family event. There are a lot of good activities for children and adults," said Theodus Crane, who appeared in several episodes of the AMC show "The Walking Dead" in 2012.
The two-day event features a zombie obstacle course, laser tag, an indoor arcade event, a skills alley and live music each evening. The event is open again today from 8:30 a.m. until 10 p.m.
A costume contest was to be held Saturday evening and again today, with cash prizes to be awarded for Best Zombie, Best Defender, Best Cosplay and Best Costume, which has a $1,000 grand prize.
Peter Matos, the organizer of the event, said most of the people who attended on Saturday were die-hard fans of the zombie genre.
While everyone had fun during the other various activities of the event, Matos said the question-and-answer session with Crane, Ann Mahoney, who also stars in "The Walking Dead," and Didrick Davis, who was in "Zombie Apocalypse: Redemption," proved to be the main attraction on Saturday.
"There were a lot of questions about zombies, but also about acting in general," Crane said, adding that an acting group was there and picked the trio's brains about how to get started in the industry.
Crane, Mahoney and Davis will all be on hand again today for another question-and-answer session from noon to 1 p.m.
